About Shelton Jolivette…
Shelton Jolivette, a proud native of Houston, Texas, has lived a life defined by service, faith, and creativity. A graduate of Jesse H. Jones High School, Jolivette went on to serve his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during Desert Storm. Beyond his military service, he has built an impressive 30-year career as a mortgage professional and compliance officer, yet his heart has always belonged to the arts.
Ordained in 1996, Jolivette’s journey as a man of many hats has been guided by purpose and passion. His gift for acting was discovered by his mother and nurtured by mentors and opportunities that allowed him to bring characters to life on stage and screen. He credits industry pioneers such as Rozanne Curtis, Verily Harris Harper, Curtis Von, Neita Pittman, Joe Grisaffi, and Ya’Ke Smith for recognizing his talent and opening doors early in his career.
Jolivette’s acting debut in Who Sent the Ships, directed by Rozanne Curtis, became the turning point that led to major roles in theater and film. His breakout came when he was cast in There’s One in Every Family, the longest-touring African American stage play in history. From there, his trajectory soared, landing a featured appearance in Friday Night Lights and later a leading role in the acclaimed feature film WOLF, written and directed by Ya’Ke Smith and starring alongside Irma P. Hall, Eugene Lee, Jordan Cooper, and Mikala Gibson.
An award-winning actor, Jolivette has appeared in numerous films and television series, including Zombie Tidal Wave, 5th Ward, and Dark Summer. One of his most memorable moments came when he starred opposite Academy Award-winning actress and director Regina King in Season One of ABC’s American Crime. His on-screen presence and authenticity have made him a respected and admired figure in the entertainment industry.
In addition to acting, Jolivette has made his mark behind the camera as a film producer and casting director, contributing to feature films such as Staycation (2022) and Message and the Messenger (2022). His creativity, leadership, and eye for talent continue to shape new opportunities in film and television.
Jolivette credits his father as his greatest inspiration, a man whose strength, perseverance, and unwavering example taught him how to be a husband, a father, and a man of integrity. “My dad showed me what sacrifice and perseverance look like,” says Jolivette. “My strength, my personality, and my determination to succeed come from what my father gave me until I became a man. Now, I am that guy.”
His legacy of excellence has earned him numerous honors, including the prestigious Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award for his service to the community and his distinguished career in entertainment. Yet, above all his achievements, Jolivette proudly says his greatest success is being a father and witnessing the accomplishments of his children.
